Lacock Abbey was founded in 1232 and converted into a family home in the 16th century. Many of the medieval features of the original building remain today, including monastic rooms and cloisters. Lacock village dates from the 13th century and is the perfect spot for a relaxing stroll back in time. The Fox Talbot Museum commemorates the life and achievements of William Henry Fox Talbot (1800-77), former resident of Lacock Abbey and inventor of photography. The Abbey and village have featured in many TV and film productions including Pride and Prejudice, Cranford, The Other Boylan Girl and the Harry Potter movies.
An imposing Elizabethan stately home, set in parkland and gardens designed by Capability Brown and Humphry Repton. The house contains an internationally renowned collection of Old Master Paintings hung in manificent 18th century interiors.
A Fine 18th century building makes a fitting setting for Chippenham’s museum, which tells the story of the town and its people through displays ranging from Alfred the Great to Victorian life.
